Surprisingly, you may not have to travel far from a city to find a spot for stargazing. Sites sufficiently shielded from street lights, security lights or approaching cars to offer a good view of the night sky can be found near some of our largest cities, one of these is a grassy clearing within Leigh woods, a broadleaf woodland on the plateau high above the Avon Gorge, with good sightlines to the night sky.
